Left 4 Dead is a zombie survival shooter published by Valve. It was originally Turtle Rock Studios' work before leaving Valve. It originally started as a zombies mod for Counter-Strike pitched by TRS. The game was shown off in 2008 and eventually released in November 11 on Steam and Xbox 360. One year later, Left 4 Dead 2, the sequel was released for the same platforms.
The series stopped gaining releases as Valve planned to release Left 4 Dead 3 using Source 2, however on multiple occasions that a Left 4 Dead game was attempted in Source 2, development halted due to Source 2's very unstable state and burnout from the development team. There was also a rumored Left 4 Dead VR title but was not a major project.
Left 4 Dead 2 finally started receiving updates again in September of 2020 and continues to receive updates, with rumored content updates coming in the future. The major update that revived Left 4 Dead 2 introduced Counter-Strike weapons that were originally released in the German version of the game, due to the German version having a censored version of the game, which has since received a gore content addition.
The successor to Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood, is planned to get a release in late 2021.
